One of the earliest bulbs into bloom each year, the reticulata iris make fine additions to alpine beds, pots, windowboxes, and front of border positions. This is a relatively new form. It's delicate appearance belies the fact that it is in fact pretty tough, often having to push its way up through the snow. The petals are a soft blue, and the falls are each freckled with stronger blue and have a yellow blush. It's really pretty.

  • Garden care: Plant bulbs 5cm deep and 5 - 10cm apart in the autumn, in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Water moderately while they are actively growing and keep reasonably dry during their dormant period.

  • Harmful if eaten
