Baptisia australis

false Indigo

Availability: in stock 9cm pot

Product description

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: April to June
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Upright spikes of mauve to dark indigo-blue, pea-like flowers in June, often flecked white or cream. False indigo is perfect for a well-drained border or a dry, sunny bank. Resist the temptation to cut the plant back in autumn since the seed-pods and slender stems look wonderful frosted in the winter garden.

  • Garden care: Drought tolerant once established, however keep new plants well watered. Lift and divide large colonies in early spring.

“Plant to the rear of the flower border or let it self-seed around a wildflower garden; endlessly useful as ground cover clothing gently sloping banks”

    Lucy Summers - Greenfingers Guides
